Billboard Release notes
v1.1.0 (28 July 2026)
Season 1. Your screens have been doing one job. Now they do six.
Boards you design in the browser
- Build a canteen menu, a room timetable, a welcome message or a set of reminders in the dashboard and drop it into any gallery. Four shapes to choose from: text, a menu with leader dots, a run of times, or short chips.
- Boards live in one library. Put the same board in five galleries, change a price once, and every screen showing it catches up on its next refresh.
- Pick a colour mesh or use one of your own photos. Text colour is chosen for you from whichever of white or black stays readable.
Weather on screen
- Live local conditions from Apple Weather, as a small chip beside the clock or as a full-screen card in the rotation.
- The card carries a short line of genuine local guidance, and looks a little way ahead, so it tells you whether it will rain rather than only whether it is raining now.
- One location for the whole account. Set it once in Settings, then Apps.
Full-screen emergency alerts
- Send an alert from the dashboard and it takes over every screen at once. There is no dismiss button on the TV, which is the point. Clear it from the dashboard and the screens go back to what they were doing.
- Alerts carry their own expiry, so a screen that was unplugged for a week cannot come back and resurrect one.
Portrait mode
- Turn a screen on its side and the whole layout follows, type included, off the same gallery. No second setup and no separate gallery to maintain.
Captions and your logo
- Caption any photo, so a screen can say what it is showing.
- Put your logo on every screen, boards included.
Free photography from Unsplash
- Search millions of free, high-resolution photos from inside the dashboard and drop them straight into a gallery.
- They play from Unsplash rather than being copied into your account, so they cost you no storage at all, however many you place.
Also in this release
- Wide photos on an upright screen fill their own bars instead of sitting in flat grey.
- A new typeface across every board, plus a run of layout fixes found by photographing real screens.
- The AirPlay panel spreads into the top corners when nothing else is up there, and the weather slide centres itself when the top bar is empty.
- Apple's Weather mark now sits as a persistent corner watermark whenever weather is on screen, as Apple's licence requires.
Fixed
- A long notice scrolling across the top could quietly stop. It now keeps going for as long as it is up.
- The pairing code on a waiting screen could outlive the code the server would still accept, so it looked fine and failed to claim. It now stays current for as long as it is on screen.
v1.0.4 (19 July 2026)
New pricing, a bigger free plan, and screens that are easier on your network.
Two screens free, forever
- The Free plan now runs two Apple TVs instead of one. Enough to see Billboard working properly across a couple of rooms before you pay anything, with no time limit and no card.
Simpler, bigger plans
- Unlimited is now A$100 a month or A$1,000 a year, and it still means what it says: as many screens as you like, no ceiling, no "call us for a quote".
- Growth moves to A$40 a month or A$400 a year for up to 50 screens.
- Starter is unchanged at A$10 a month.
- Annual plans still give you two months free.
Gentler on your network
- Screens now check for new content every 30 minutes by default instead of every three. Quieter on school and office networks, and kinder to metered connections.
- Want changes on screen faster? Pick your own refresh interval in gallery settings, anywhere from 3 minutes to weekly. Your screens pick up the new setting on their next check, no restart needed.
Fixed
- Choosing "Weekly" as a refresh interval now actually saves as weekly. It was quietly being stored as "Per day".
v1.0.3 (17 July 2026)
Billboard is out of beta. This one's about going live on the App Store and making subscriptions simple right from your Apple TV.
Live on the App Store
- Billboard is now on the Apple TV App Store, out of TestFlight beta. Search "Billboard Screen" on your Apple TV, or get it from the website. It's free to install.
Subscriptions, sorted on your TV
- Need more screens? Subscribe straight from the Apple TV. The upgrade screen shows what you get, the price and when it renews, before you commit.
- Manage or restore your subscription from the app whenever you like.
- Over your screen limit? You can now disconnect a screen right there, instead of only upgrading.
Everything in plain sight
- Read the full Terms of Use and Privacy Policy on your Apple TV, no phone needed.
Steady as ever
- Quiet work under the hood so Billboard runs consistently on every Apple TV, plus the usual improvements to stability and performance.
v1.0.2 (15 July 2026)
We've been busy. This one's mostly about making Billboard quicker to set up and nicer to live with day to day.
Setting up is quicker
- Getting a screen going now takes seconds. Your Apple TV shows a short code, you type it into your dashboard, done. No more squinting at the TV to enter things.
- One button does it all on the Apple TV. Press Back on the remote and you get a simple menu: refresh your content, manage your plan, disconnect a screen.
- Signing up feels friendlier too.
A nicer dashboard
- Your gallery got a proper redesign. Photos and videos come first, front and centre, the way it should have been all along.
- Each item now sits on a card with a Polaroid look and a little countdown, so you can tell at a glance what's playing and when it's about to change.
- Framing a photo so it looks right on the big screen is a lot easier now.
- Uploading is smoother, and the controls are tidier.
Plans that fit you
- Upgrade in a tap, on your Apple TV or from your dashboard, whichever's handier. You see the price before you commit.
- Change or cancel whenever. Your plan's always right there.
Reliable on every screen
- Video loops cleanly and everything plays smoothly. Lose the internet for a bit and your screen just keeps going on what it's got, then catches up once you're back online.
- You can set how big the on-screen info panel shows up across all your screens.
Always improving
- More help articles, answering the stuff people actually ask us.
- And a lot of quieter work on speed, security and reliability. The kind of thing you shouldn't have to think about.
v1.0.1 (7 July 2026)
Everything below ships in v1.0.1, across the Billboard dashboard and the Billboard app for Apple TV.
Apple TV app
- Turn any Apple TV into a customisable Conference Room Display with your own images and video, playing full-screen with smooth crossfades.
- A drifting AirPlay panel so anyone in the room can still cast, showing your branding and network details, in Frosted, Medium and Glass styles.
- The AirPlay panel matches Apple's Conference Room Display and shows your network name, labelled "Network" so it reads correctly on Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
- An on-screen clock and an account notice, both with a frosted-glass look, that drift slightly over time to prevent burn-in on always-on screens.
- Screens check for changes on the refresh interval you choose and update on their own. No restart.
- Read the privacy policy right on the Apple TV, from Settings.
- A Developer mode overlay shows sync status, countdowns and app version at a glance for troubleshooting a display.
- Gentler wording when a screen is paused for being over your plan's limit.
- Now available in public beta on TestFlight. Join from the website or the "Get the app" link in your dashboard.
Galleries & content
- Manage every screen from one dashboard, with instant updates and live monitoring.
- Build galleries of images and video, and schedule content to appear and disappear on set dates.
- A redesigned gallery with boxed 16:9 previews, so each thumbnail shows exactly what appears on screen.
- Drag and drop to reorder your media.
- Select several images at once to remove them together, with a confirmation step before anything is deleted.
- A drag-and-drop upload experience with per-file progress.
Photo framing & cropping
- Every image is automatically cropped and optimised to fill a Full HD screen.
- Choose exactly how each photo is framed with a 16:9 crop tool, and re-frame any time.
- Keep your original photos to re-crop whenever you like, or finalise crops to save storage. Your choice, per account.
- iPhone photos (HEIC) are supported and converted automatically on upload.
Settings & account
- A single Settings panel (General, Gallery, Billing, Storage, Security and Account) on desktop and mobile.
- Link directly to any settings section from around the app.
- Add a display photo or company logo, and pick an accent colour for your dashboard.
- See where you're signed in, and sign out of all devices, from Security.
- A Storage page showing what you've used, plus tools to manage original photos and reclaim space.
- Set an account-wide notice that shows across all of your screens.
- Send feedback, with an optional screenshot, straight from the account menu.
- Sign in with Google or Microsoft, or reset your password by email.
- Permanently delete your account and all of its data at any time.
Billing & plans
- Flat, screen-based pricing with automatic limit enforcement.
- Upgrade without leaving Billboard with in-app checkout, and manage your saved cards and invoice history inside Billing.
- Every plan includes media storage.
Branding & display
- Tint the AirPlay panel and choose its glass: Frosted, Medium or clear.
- Set an exact brand colour by hex code.
- Show your network as a join step on the panel, and an on-screen clock.
Privacy
- Cookie-consent controls. Analytics load only after you agree, and you can change your choice at any time.
- A public privacy policy and terms & conditions.
Help & support
- A Help & Support centre with deployment guides for Jamf, Jamf School, Intune, Mosyle, Kandji, SimpleMDM, Cisco Meraki, Apple Configurator and Apple Business Manager.
- Everyday Apple TV guides: pairing and resetting the remote, restarting and resetting, installing configuration profiles, and keeping a screen always-on.
- Step-by-step guides with screenshots for creating galleries, uploading media, customising the display, billing and your account, all searchable and tagged.
- Dedicated pages for schools and universities.
Performance & reliability
- Faster dashboard loads and quicker, more reliable delivery of content to every screen.
- Dark mode across the whole dashboard.
- Stronger protection for your uploaded media.
- Fixed: creating a gallery could occasionally create two, and switching plans could risk a duplicate subscription. Both are fixed now. A single-image gallery now holds steady instead of fading in and out.
